Saving Christmas?
Started By
Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I'm on my school's mock trial team, and our coach has been going through a lot lately. Both his mother and father have already passed, his wife is leaving him, his nephew was born a few days with a blocked umbilical cord and is in the hospital because he's stopped breathing several times. To top it all off, he ran out of a meeting this afternoon. His brother had a heart attack.

He's essentially going to be alone for the holidays, which I know is very, very crappy no matter who you are or what you believe. I want to do something nice for him, the whole team does really. This man in many ways saved my life and I really need to do this.

I need some ideas for something nice to do for him for Christmas. Thoughts?

Ask your family about inviting him over for x-mas!!

Are you looking for a present kind of thing? If he has no one to spend Christmas with, you guys could go eat breakfast on Christmas or just something like to give him some company.

We're pretty much all very close. I've been his student and a member of the team for three years. He's one of those teachers who cares about his students and literally everyone respects him, which is really, really fortunate in this case.

A concert would be really cool. We know who he likes so I guess it would just be a matter of who's touring soon. I was thinking about excluding things that involve tickets, because of the date restrictions and all that, but I might be able to.

I'd just be mortified if I got a few tickets and he ended up not having anyone to go with. ;____; I'm sure he would, but he usually went to concerts and football games with his brother, so...

Hm... Do you know any of his interests? And how close is your team to him? It might be neat if you could figure out somewhere he likes to go (favorite outdoor place to go? favorite restaurant? particular anything?) and set up a sort of get-together with your whole team and anyone else who is close with him. Like Clay said, it might also be nice to decorate his classroom for him, something festive and fun.

We had one of my Dad's business acquaintances over to dinner and took her a concert last night. She's been going through a lot lately as well (divorce, death of parent, one parent who doesn't care too much, etc) and she seemed to really enjoy it. Maybe something like that? Without knowing your relationship with your team and coach, I feel weird suggesting specific things >.<

But that's very nice of all of you to want to do something to pick his spirits up! Happy Holidays ^.^

Hmmm when I was in highschool, whenever we wanted to celebrate for a teacher we would decorate the classroom like a party :D
